News From Our ClassesBeginners
In the first week of the month, we’ll be focusing on baby animals, from chicks and bunnies to kittens and puppies. Next, we’ll learn about turtles and frogs! As we wrap up April, your infant will experience the gardens and picnics that celebrate springtime. We will continue to foster the thinking skills and language development of your infant through reading books, enjoying one-on-one interaction time and having conversations throughout the day.
First Steps
April showers bring May flowers, green grass, budding trees, and babies who look at spring with curious eyes! As the environment changes the warming weather, animal life changes, too. Baby animals appear, pond animals emerge, and tadpoles turn into frogs. Your baby will take a closer look at the changing environment through the curriculum this month.
Explorers I (Two’s)
These older toddlers are beginning to develop a sense of their identity. This is a perception of who they are as people. They are also beginning to describe themselves in terms that define their values such as good, bad, messy, etc. For this reason, it is important to focus on the children’s positive qualities. The messages they hear from others will contribute to how they see themselves. When there are times that their behavior is inappropriate, be sure to stress that the behavior not the child is unacceptable. Children will live up to the expectation we set for them.
Explorers II and Discovery
This month your threes will continue to explore the wonders of spring. In Week One, we’ll focus on baby animals and how they grow and develop. In Week Two, we’ll "travel" to the great outdoors and check out some turtles. Then, in Week Three, we’ll be ready to see how tadpoles grow into frogs! Week Four gives your threes a hands-on look at plant life through "Great Gardens." And in Week Five, we’ll feature outdoor dining with a focus on picnics.
Discovery I
This month brings your fours into the world of baby animals as they look at ducklings, chicks, bunnies, puppies, and kittens. We may make a petting zoo using all sorts of stuffed animals. Our dramatic play area may turn into a pet shop with props to match. We will add magazines with photos of baby animals to the book area and display posters of the animals on the walls. We will remember to keep language as a focus and add the formal names of the animals to the photos.
Discovery II
Pre-K will be focusing on phonics and reading from now until August. We will be working diligently on our letters, colors, numbers, and shapes until Kindergarten begins and the best thing you can do for your child during this time is to read to them. Please pay close attention to your weekly news sheets to get the latest information.
